CHERRISSE "RES" COLVIN
FOUNDER & HEAD DESIGNER OF SHEEPBLACK DESIGNS, LLC. Res Colvin, native of BIRMINGHAM, AL , created SHEEPBLACK as a creative outlet to express her own life story through ART. "I grew up in the West End district of Birmingham. I attended Wenonah High School, Class of 1999. After high school, I briefly attended The Art Institute of Atlanta, majoring in Graphic Design." "During my childhood I faced many obstacles and experienced many circumstances that had a major impact on me personally. This included but was not limited to low self-esteem, identity issues and battles with depression. I learned I had the gift of "ART" at a very early age. My earliest childhood memories are looking through my father's collection of albums, drawing cover art. I was always intrigued by African American history and Art. My favorite Art era would have to be the Harlem Renaissance period and my favorite Artists were Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawerence and Horace Pippin. According to Res Colvin, " SHEEPBLACK is a representation of my story. Being labeled as a Black Sheep, for so many reasons, I chose to turn that stigma around. Thus, creating SHEEPBLACK in the process. It's a visual reminder that I define my worth. My peace belongs to me. It basically reminds me that I control the true essence of ME. SHEEPBLACK is not just an apparel label, it's my own personal fashion statement. " Res Colvin also hopes to use this platform to feature local artists. "Birmingham is full of talented individuals that just need a start to excel and if I could provide that opportunity - I WILL! " |
